The second stage of the journey – Burgundy. We’d picked a small hotel in the village of Morey Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte d’Or, but delightfully out of the hustle and bustle. Enjoyed a tasting and picked up a few nice bottles in Aloxe-Corton. A fantastic trip so far!
An Eventful First Day
Today was a big day for us. Here’s what Stacy had to say, “Jonathan asked me to marry him today in front of a vineyard in Burgundy. We had stopped to take a picture and “look at the grapes”, said the Gentleman Farmer in Maine. I immediately spied a heart-shaped rock in the gravel under the vines and went to dig it out. When I stood up he was down on one knee in the dusty limestone… soooooo….I said yes… and you can bet I’m bringing home that heart-shaped limestone rock!
Day Two in Burgundy
Managed to catch the Clos de Vougeot on a quiet day, in spite of it being a gorgeous Saturday. What an incredible spot. Followed up with some time cruising the roads through the vineyards and then comparing a couple of wines in Gevrey Chambertin. Which, incidentally, came with the best plate of cheese and charcuterie ever.
A Visit to Beaune
Great visit to Beaune yesterday, including the beautiful Hospices (aka Hotel Dieu). Hard to believe that this served as a hospital from the mid-1400s up until my lifetime. Made our way to Cosne-Sur-Loire late yesterday and are ready to see (taste?) more wines and cheese today.
