Yup. A nice collection of fruitcakes baked and ready to start the second phase of their development, swaddled in rum-soaked cloths until the holidays. Of course, we had to sample the rums on hand to ensure that we were using the right one. And the loaf we cut open probably won’t make it to Christmas…
An Unearthing
We unearthed the three remaining fruitcakes that had been resting peacefully in a dark corner of the cellar since early November of 2019. Hard to believe you could leave a “baked good” in a spot like that for more than ten months and have it look as good as the day it was made. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the power of rum-soaked swaddling cloths. In case you’re wondering, we gave them another good soaking and put them back for the home stretch until this year’s holiday season. Let’s just hope we don’t forget about them.
