Snowshoeing

Posted on December 20, 2020July 7, 2021 By Jonathan Edgerton

We usually don’t dig out the snowshoes until we’ve got at least a foot of snow on the ground – and we exceeded that this week. I’ve tried the newer versions, made with synthetic materials, but I always go back to the old type, fashioned of wood and rawhide. With proper maintenance (an occasional coat of spar varnish) they’ll last for ages.

I alternate between the pair I got in high school from @llbean, @llbeanpr, and a pair that belonged to my grandfather that is still going strong after almost a century of use. It’s a great way to get some exercise this time of year.

Even with Gia along for the hike, the snow was as idyllic as ever. Anyone looking at the dog would say she’s white….but apparently not as white as the snow.
